Set subjects for 2018 / 2019
March	Backlighting	Backlighting is where you are illuminating your subject from the back, as opposed to from the front, or the side.
April	Fill the frame	Fill The Frame is all about getting nice tight crops and framings in your shots.
May	Long Exposure	Long exposure begins when you can’t take a sharp image handheld. Normally, this is at about 1/50th of a second with a wide angle lens. You will need a tripod and ideally a remote trigger to fire the camera(reducing camera shake).
June	Abandoned	You may wish to take an image of an urban setting that is ‘decaying’ or perhaps a landscape suffering from environmental abuse, or a run down machine….. really anything that has some element of decay will work. Use your imagination and creativity.
July	Architecture	Architectural photography involves capturing an image of a physical structure in an aesthetically pleasing way for your viewers.
August	"Wild" animals	Any non domestic animal: it can include insects,  birds, fish - any wild animal living in its own natural environment.
September	The other side	Have a look at "the other side" of an object: The underside of a flower, objects from behind, from below, from above - the opposite of what we are used to.
October	Perspective	Do not fall into the trap of shooting everything you see at eye-level, just as you see it. Take the time to explore your subject, and consider changing your perspective. Get low and see what changes, get up high and explore a new view, or move laterally and watch different interactions occur and disappear between objects.
November	Tools of the Trade	This image have to highlight the tools that the tradesman or hobbyist need in order to create or do his work: it can be the tools of a carpenter, mechanic, doctor, artist, sportsman etc.
January	Happiness in colour	Your image has to portray the emotion: happiness. Colour plays an important role in this image.
February	Silhouettes	Silhouettes remove all the distractions and clutter in the scene and distill the image down to its most basic, this is why the story is so important.  Just using shapes you must make a photo that is recognizable, and that the viewer can relate to.
March	Portraiture	The subject must be the main focus - head, head & shoulders, full length figure studies of people (or domestic animals.)

West coast photographic society came 8th out of 12 participating clubs. Well done!

Our top scorer was Adrian Venter, who scored 26 for his Garlic press. (Keep in mind the highest score for the evening was 27)

Michael Germishuys scored 25 for his Born to run, and 24 for his Triangles and Squares. 49 in total.

Adele van Schalkwyk scored 25 for her Eye to eye, and 24 for her Electric boat. 49 in total.
(Best combined score was 53, then two of 51, and one of 50.)

Anna-Marie Muller scored 25 for Worlds apart.
